Magnesium Sulphate Supplement 2Kg
Magnesium sulphate supplement for dosing marine aquariums to increase Magnesium levels.
Magnesium is an important ion in reef aquaria. Like calcium and alkalinity, it can be depleted by various means if appropriate measures are not taken to maintain it. In order to prevent its depletion, or to correct a deficit when it occurs.
Magnesium's primary importance in reef aquaria is its interaction with the calcium and alkalinity balance. Seawater and reef aquarium water are always supersaturated with calcium carbonate. That is, the solution's calcium and carbonate levels exceed the amount that the water can hold at equilibrium. How can that be? Magnesium is a big part of the answer.
Whenever calcium carbonate begins to precipitate, magnesium binds to the calcium carbonate crystals' growing surface. The magnesium effectively clogs the crystals' surface so that they no longer look like calcium carbonate, making them unable to attract more calcium and carbonate, so the precipitation stops. Without the magnesium, the abiotic (i.e. non-biological) precipitation of calcium carbonate would likely increase enough to prohibit the maintenance of calcium and alkalinity at natural levels.
For this reason, we suggest targeting between 1250-1350 ppm when testing for magnesium
Package makes approximately 2.2 gallons of Magnesium Supplement
• Lab tested and pharmaceutical grade
• Dissolves completely and easily in purified water
• Phosphate and Ammonia free
Recommended Dosage: 1000ml or 880grams makes 1 gallon of high quality supplement
Instructions for use: Add 1000ml of the Magnesium Sulfate into a clean dry 1 gallon container. Fill the container about ¾ full with RO/DI or filtered water; shake vigorously for about 2 minutes. Fill the remaining portion of the container and let sit overnight before adding to the aquarium. For best results, drip the supplement slowly into the sump of the aquarium.
Can be mixed in a 1-1 Ratio (500 ml of each) with Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate for use as a popular 2-part solution and a stand-alone magnesium supplement.
Recommended magnesium levels are between 1,250 and 1,350 ppm. When not testing, add (10 ml) per 250 gallons weekly.
You will need the following (Not included):
1 new clean food grade container with sealable lid
1 gallon of RO/DI or filtered water. If you are buying the water, you can also use the jug as your mixing container.
Clean plastic funnel
